Consolidation
We need to come together to prevent the consolidation drive from damaging our communities. As Commissioner I have held town hall meetings in each of the municipalities to inform the citizens of Shelby County of the process and the dangers I see that may come out of it.

Taxes and Spending
We have to get government spending under control. As County Commissioner, I have pressured the administration into presenting a budget that reflects $20 Million in spending cuts. I will continue to hold the line against increased spending and work diligently to find ways we can improve the efficiency and thus the cost of government.
Additionally, I believe that we need to lower property taxes in Shelby County. The challenging economy makes it important that government become less of a burden on our citizens. A property tax cut will help our community across the board by effectively lowering mortgage payments, reducing tax burdens on small businesses, and encouraging development.

Crime
Shelby County must take an active role in making our neighborhoods safe. I have been active on this front by sponsoring legislation encouraging the reclassification of Aggravated Burglary to a Class A Felony. Furthermore, as a member of the Drug Court Task force, I am supportive of initiatives that will prevent recidivism.

Ethics and Accountability
As an elected official, I feel that I must hold myself to a higher standard. I am entrusted with taxpayer's hard earned dollars and am committed to making sure that every dollar is accounted for. This summer, I will put forth legislation adding penalties for noncompliance into the existing ethics ordinance.

Education
Education is the foundation from which Shelby County can build a great future. I will work hard to insure that we have safe schools for our children to learn in and that teachers have the tools they need. I will also make it a priority to hold the school systems accountable for spending the our tax dollars in an efficient manner.

Family Values
We need to be a community that is conducive to raising a family. That is why I have proposed amendments to the adult business ordinance to prevent those business from being able to open near child care centers and businesses targeting minors.
